Tahoe Travel Tips
  • To help combat altitude sickness drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids, which will also help with dehydration, eat light meals, avoid over exertion and get plenty of rest. Symptoms include headache, fatigue, decreased appetite, nausea, shortness of breath with exertion and restless sleep.

  • Wear sunscreen with at least SPF of 15 or higher no matter what time of the year you visit Lake Tahoe to avoid getting sunburn. We receive approximately five times the amount of ultraviolet rays compared to sea levels elsewhere. Bring your sunglasses and sunhats too!

  • Casual attire in Tahoe is acceptable at all attractions, dinner theaters and most restaurants. Temperatures can fall below 40° at night year round, so bring a light jacket and pants for those cool summer nights.

  • During the winter be aware of frostbite symptoms such as burning, tingling, numbness, and a whitish discoloration of the skin. Cover all exposed areas of your body during colder, windy days and stormy weather.

  • Before driving to Tahoe in the winter be prepared. Check your vehicle for appropriate tire tread, anti-freeze, lights, battery, brakes, defroster, heater and wiper blades. It’s also a good idea to carry proper fitting tire chains, extra blankets and clothing, gloves, flashlight, shovel, ice scrapper and flares.
